And this is paying off precisely in the current economic crisis – particularly for manufacturing companies in the park: They benefit from flexibility because they do not have to organise and operate their own infrastructure services. And many site operators go one step further and offer their tenants additional price concessions to help them through difficult times. This where the long-term orientation of industrial park operators pays dividends: It can only be seen as legitimate that they should in return seek a long-term and close partnership in which tenants purchase more services from the park operator.

The chemical park model is currently proving its worth through its robustness as a
superior concept for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. This became particularly clear in November 2009: 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall many of the East German chemical parks, which have been trailblazers in the global restructuring process of the chemical industry, are now in top shape. Since the beginning of the 1990s no less than Euro 16.6 billion have been invested in infrastructure reconstruction and development and in production plant at the large chemical industry sites located in Saxony-Anhalt at Leuna, Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Schkopau, and Zeitz, as well as
at Böhlen (Saxony) and at Schwarzheide (Brandenburg). Some 28 000 persons are
currently employed at the large chemical industry sites. Congratulations!
