Tri-Shark Triple Offset Butterfly Valve
This revised design is equal in control performance to a globe valve or rotary plug valve, but offers much better shut-off capabilities. By combining the Sharktooth throttling trim cartridge with the Tri-Con triple offset butterfly valve series, the manufacturer has created its Tri-Shark zero leakage shut-off and control triple offset butterfly valve. This control valve has numerous advantages: On the one hand it offers all the pros of triple eccentric butterfly valves, on the other hand this valve combination features all the special qualities of an excellent control valve. With the throttling trim cartridge the valve´s flow characteristic is changed to an equal percentage flow characteristic, which is known to be the preferred inherent flow characteristic for the majority of control applications. The flow characteristic makes sure that the valve is able to provide an effective control range from 5 up to 30 degrees of travel, the control area where traditional triple eccentric butterfly valves seem to reach their limits. A further advantages of the valves comes from their anti-cavitation properties. The flow is divided among the slots, which reduces cavitation, because the steam bubbles occurring in the region of the cartridge‘s throttling slots reach smaller dimensions owing to the lower flow rate in each channel. Therefore the steam bubbles implode with less energy. Furthermore, especially at small opening angles, the valves are able to conduct water jets concentrically to the pipeline´s center, thereby reducing the kinetic energy of the fluid prior to contacting the pipe wall. Thus less damage can occur, e.g. to the pipe wall.
